AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

-To create awareness to the local communities on the significance of Mangrove Eco-System as a vital component in sustaining livelihood.

-To demonstrate how Mangrove wetlands can be managed through Small-Scale silvo-fisheries to benefit local people.

-To educate the local people in conserving and managing their natural resources with a vision of sustainability.

-To encourage coordination and co-operation of all stakeholders in Mangrove conservation and management so as to ensure freedom of Mangrove vegetation.

-To open ways for further discussion and extension of research findings to the local people on how Mangroves are useful, can be restored and managed to ensure sustainability.

-To provide a basis ground for scientific study for school and researchers.

-To increase tourist attraction within coast province.

-To educate and sensitize to the entire community about preventive measures against HIV/Aids.

INTRODUCTION


Majaoni Youth Development Group (MYDG) is a community based group located 26 Kms from Mombasa north, behind Shimo la Tewa Annex Prison. The group was formed on the 16th of October, 2003 and is registered under the Department of Social Services.
The area managed covers a total of 2 Km square along Mtwapa Creek. The group entirely found it harmonious to actively involve itself in protection and conservation of the Marine Eco-System through Aqua-Silvo fisheries activities.
